List your artifacts/artifakes: 1. All About Me Notebook. T 2. Photos from Orange County History Center. 3. All About Me Poster (Class book). T
How could these artifacts be used to introduce or teach necessary concepts to students?
The All About Me notebook will be used to make students aware of the things that make them special. Things such as their favorite colors and food. The shapes they know, when their birthday is, and more.
The photos that will be used from the Orange County History Center are those of the houses the Seminoles used to live in back in the old days. The students can look at these pictures and compare the ways technology and houses have been advanced. Seeing the way their houses look today and comparing them will be a great visual.
The all about me poster will be designed by each student. The teacher will then create a class book out of all the student’s posters. The students can look at this book and see all the different interests their classmates have, and how each and every person is different.
Kindergarten Lesson Plans This website is a great way to visually reinforce the concept of mapping. Students will start by creating a map of the earth on a large circle cutout. The students will then create one for their continent, country, state, city/county, street, and house. Each circle will be slightly smaller than the other.
Pro teacher This website provides a worksheet that allows students to compare their houses now to the ones people lived in many years ago. The students can use the tangible photos I have provided from the History Center to make the comparisons a little more real.
Making Learning Fun This website creates and allows for teachers to print out shaped birthday charts. The one I would use for this lesson if the chart shaped like a train. Trains are something we don’t use anymore but can build on the history of transportation for this history unit. For each month the teacher will list the children’s names for that month. I would prefer using a student picture to make it a little more personal and that month all about them. Books
I Like Me by Nancy Carison
This is a great little story about a pig who does some things wrong. Instead of being sad and feeling bad for herself she takes the mistakes and tries it again. This book serves as a positive reinforcement for all students. It lets children know that when they get knocked down, they shouldn’t give up, they need to get right back up and try again, to never give up even if they fail a few times.
I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont
This story is about a little girl who goes through and point s out all the things that are unique and special about her. It was written to provide students with a sense of confidence and self acceptance. The book is put together very nicely and makes it even more fun for the students with the rhyming sentences.
Happy, Sad, Silly, Mad: My World Makes Me Feel by John E. Mitchell and Jana Christy
This is a picture book that describes the certain things that we see in the world and how they make someone feel. This book features children of all skin colors and abilities so no one feels left out. It also discusses the different feelings we experience throughout our lives. The story includes feelings such as being curious, excited, scared, angry, embarrassed, and so much more.
All of me: A book of Thanks by Molly Bang
This is a children’s story about all the different parts of the body and how they are used. It allows children to be thankful and appreciate the things their body does for them. While they understand they are a part of a bigger picture, called the universe. This book has an interracial family represented to great that universal picture.
